FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I book a session?
First thing is to get in touch with me via my contact form. Once we have decided on a date, I will send you the booking questionnaire along with the terms and conditions. Once they are both returned, your session is confirmed and booked. If it is a newborn session we will use your due date and agree on an actual date once baby arrives.
We will then discuss your session, the style and feel you are interested in, the location, outfits, time of day and any other queries you may have.
What locations do you cover/ how far will you travel?
I am based in our Avondale Heights studio Melbourne and around Warrnambool.
I love to capture your story in your home or favourite outdoor location.
Some locations incur a travel fee.
When is the best time to book a newborn session?
I answer this question with a question...
Do you want the sleepy, curly, tiny or posed newborn photographs? If yes, then ASAP, with in 10 days of birth is best, but up to 16 days is great. If, however, you would rather have some more time before your session and you are interested in natural, lifestyle photography then within the first 3 months will capture your tiny, fresh baby and all the love around them.
To ensure you don’t miss out, I suggest booking in your session before baby arrives and we can confirm the date after. I will book you in with your due date. I take limited newborn sessions per month to ensure dates can be secured within a short time frame, so please get in early.
When is the best time for a Maternity session?
I love a big round bump, so I recommend a session between 32 & 36 weeks. Don’t leave it too late, as your baby may be keen to meet you.
When is the best time to do a baby session?
I think a great baby session is before baby is too mobile but after the chubby cheeks and giggles have popped in. This can be anywhere from 4-10 months. It is great to capture the 1st birthday milestone too, such cuties then.
What if the weather isn’t right for our session or we get sick?
If there weather plays up or you are unwell then we postpone your session and choose another date that works.
What happens after a session?
After your session I upload your photographs, process and edit them.
You will receive an email with payment details and delivery details. (if payment was not made on or prior to your session)
For a basic session you will receive between 40-90 photographs.
Please chat with me regarding weddings and other packages you have decided on.
Processing takes 4-8 weeks.
How do I make payment?
I take cash on day of session or internet transfer prior to photography delivery. Payment plans are available upon request.
What should we wear?
So I am going to give this one a big answer because I am asked it all the time.
Mix and match is my suggestion rather than to ‘matchy matchy’. Pick a few colours 3-5 and stick with them, then add in patterns, texture, layers and tones.
Keep clothing simple, comfortable, natural and that suit your family.
Think head to toe, I don’t need to focus on your feet but they may need to be in the shot. I love bare feet too, so that is always an option.
With colours and tones there is no right answer, it’s up to the style you like.
It is good to decide whether the basic tone of the clothing will be warm-toned (browns, mustard, cream etc.), cool-toned (blues, greys, green etc.), earthy and run with that.
More about what to wear...
Light clothing can look beautifully fresh, when Autumn tones can feel homely and warm. Lighter tones give a casual and bright look; pastels are also appealing because they enhance natural skin tones.
Avoid logos or printed graphics that may distract or contrast to your style.
For children, choose outfits that fit well without a lot of “growing room”.
And with children and babies pack a back up – for everyone!!
Wear your hair in a style that you like, that you feel is flattering. It is always a great idea to have some make up on, wear it to suit the style you are going for, even a natural session looks nice with at least a little foundation and mascara. Remember to check your nails, remove old nail polish from your fingers and toes, if needed, prior to your session.
With Maternity the goal is to show off that adorable baby bump, fitted or flowy is great, I love layers and accessories but it all depends on your personal style.
And a little more..
Newborns are often in their birthday suits or wraps (I have many but feel free to include your own). With newborns and babies, if you have that amazing outfit that you would love a photograph of, include it. Bare feet, I love them, especially for babies.
A little tip from me - Lay out all the clothing together. If anything stands out, remember that will happen in the photographs (that may be a good or bad thing).
Finally, feel free to chat to me and check out other sessions on my site to get a feel for what you like.
